Abstract
More than seven decades of attaining independence, India has been striving to become a progressive and inclusive nation. Economy has been exposed to numerous up-hill tasks of various dimensions. Despite being endowed with rich human resources and natural set up, country has been grappling with diverse socio, cultural, political and economic bottlenecks. It is yet to exhibit cogent performance towards an inclusive and progressive economy. Apart from various obstacles and upheavals like poverty, high population, illiteracy, Ill-health, Infrastructural lacuna, rural distress, trade deficit, High GDP debt ratio and income inequalities, unemployment has been a perennial challenge and a daunting task. Despite being the country with highest percentage of young population and largest education sector and booming economy, there seems to be huge vacuum in terms nurturing skilled labour. There has been a huge rift insinuated between education and skill. Educated labour force seems to be not able to match with the requisite basic skills so as to perform the functions effectively and competitively. Hereby ‘skill development’ assumes the pivotal role in transforming the work force into a more productive and a globally competitive one
