Abstract

The rapid development of technology over the past few decades has led to a surge in the production and consumption of electronics, making it one of the fastest growing manufacturing industries worldwide. E-waste, or electronic waste are non-functional, discarded electrical equipment that no longer serve their original purpose. There are different types of e-waste along with which come many implications and effects to the environment and human life. The adverse health effects include thyroid issues, adverse birth outcomes and behavioural changes seen in children and adults alike. There are many concerns that all this waste is ending up in many developing countries like India and directly affects the environment as well as their health. India is also unable to replicate the E-waste management system adopted by other countries due to lack of infrastructure, awareness, and adequate funding among other things and hence, its management is not at the level necessary. This review covers E-waste and its implications as well as effects, the scenario in India, its management, and possible solutions to combat this silent danger through various studies and flowcharts.
